Friends and family advised five-time Tour Divide finisher Cricket Butler not to move across the country and set down roots in Whitefish, Mont., but her heart told her otherwise. Just a couple of miles off the Great Divide route and adjacent to the Whitefish Trail, she now welcomes touring cyclists and mountain bikers with open arms at her Whitefish Bike Retreat.

Before he started hand-crafting steel and titanium frames under his banner Oddity Cycles, Sean “Burnsey” Burns was an architect. He made five times the money and didn’t have to wear so many hats. But he was grumpy. His wife even called him an asshole. Now, he works 60 to 80 hours a week to keep up with custom bike orders, but he’s a happy man.
